     The Berkshires experiences a variety and beauty of four distinct seasons, with corresponding variations in temperature and precipitation. Four season recreation is synonymous with the Berkshires. In the summer, the Berkshires offer 13 lakes for the best in outdoor swimming, fishing or water skiing. For the tennis enthusiast, the Berkshires offer 18 resorts and clubs. The Berkshires are home to some of the finest golf courses, 9 public and 9 private, in the state (featuring Taconic Golf Club, home of the 1992 Massachusetts Amateur Championship).

    And for nature lovers, the Berkshires offer 13 designated forest areas for the state’s best hiking, water sports and picnics. These same forests offer some of the most colorful and picturesque sights of the fall foliage.

     With an average snowfall of 70 inches per year, skiers have their choice of cross-country or downhill skiing. The Berkshires offer trails for beginners as well as advanced skiers (Cross-country ski areas; 24, downhill ski areas: 8).
